The Sambalpur Kala Parishad, from Odisha, performed the Sambalpuri dance in the school on September 27. Organised under the auspices of SPIC MACAY, the programme captivated the audience, the performers drawing repeated applause from everyone present there.
The programme began with the formal introduction and welcome of the performing artistes, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the school’s Chairman, Mr. Vijay Nagar, Director, Mr. Shailendra Benjamin, Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Geeta Shukla and the leader of the performing artists.
The performing artistes began with the Mayelajada dance. Clad in colourful costumes and accompanied by the loud and strong rhythm of their drums, dhol and stringed instruments, the dancers enthralled the audience with their agility, strength, vigour and unique style.
One of the artistes then explained to the students the details of the various musical instruments used by them. This was followed by another energetic dance, the Nachnia. The artistes wound up the show with the Bajnia dance, another dance full of vigour and vitality.
On this occasion, the school played host to around a hundred students of Government schools in the vicinity of the school. The students thoroughly enjoyed the programme and returned home with some beautiful memories.
The programme concluded with presentation of mementos to the artistes by the Chairman and a vote of thanks by the school’s Director, Mr. Shailendra Benjamin.
Those present on the occasion included the school’s Chairman, Mr. Vijay Nagar, Treasurer, Mr. Ajay Nagar, Director, Mr. Shailendra Benjamin, Administrative Officer Mr. K. K. Sharma, Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Geeta Shukla, staff and students of the school.
